Get Outdoors in Powderhorn Park on June 11

A transit-accessible and fun event is planned for Powderhorn Park in Minneapolis on June 11, 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., to help celebrate National Get Outdoors Day. REI is the event planner, with co-sponsorship by Minnesota DNR and Minneapolis Parks and Recreation. According to REI, people can take part in numerous activities related to: camping, paddling, geocaching, bike maintenance, fishing, birding, nature, outdoor photography, kids’ outdoor activities, and more! The event is completely free.

It’s easy to reach Powderhorn by bus or bike. The following routes get you nearby.

  • On Bloomington Ave., #14 (East side of park)
  • On Chicago Ave., #5 (West side of park)
  • On 38th st., #23 (South side, 4 blks to park)
  • On Lake st., #21 (North side of park)

Go to and follow instructions for the “Route Planner” to map out your trip. For “destination”, enter “Powderhorn Park and Community Center”.

Bicyclists can use for planning their trip. REI bike technicians will be on hand to do a free safety check on your bike for all attendees who ride to the event.
