Last month, the Get Your Green Team at the High School for Recording Arts joined the Sierra Club North Star Chapter and Minneapolis NAACP at our 2nd annual Earth Day celebration which focused on the Clean Air Act. The students performed several of their songs live to inspire the crowd at the Minneapolis Urban League and kick off the event.
The message in their songs are simple: going green is critical not only for the planet but for future generations and the economy. Their lyrics are real, raw and call for an end to the burning of coal and oil. When they heard about the Minnesota House passing the Dirty Coal bill today, they shared this message on our facebook page:
To quote from one of our songs, “My little cousin got asthma. We ain’t doin nothin but killin her fasta.”
Check out the Get Your Green Team’s songs and interview with Majora Carter and Sierra Club’s Environmental Justice Organizer Karen Monahan and Green For All fellow Joey Adamji:
Thanks to the students in the Get Your Green Team for a little inspiration on a dark day for Minnesota’s clean energy future.
