Wildlife Refuge Promotes Transit!

Transit to Green Space highlights how to access Twin City area parks without a car and shares our efforts to better link public transit and green space.

The events calendar of the Minnesota Valley National Wildlife Refuge includes an event – Rail to Refuge – to show people how to access the Refuge using the light rail line. People will meet at the Visitors’ Center (probably by car) and use light rail and walking to access the Bass ponds, another portion of the refuge. The event is on Feb. 6 and runs from 1:00 to 2:30.

TtGS ran our first outing to the refuge using rail and bikes in July 2008. The closest station to the Visitors’ center is the Bloomington Central station, a .6 mile walk. Our urban area is lucky to have a wild area so nearby, and so accessible by transit. Kudos to the Refuge for highlighting this fact.
